kengineer Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 I was trying to convert a Chinese font using the ugfx online font converter. If I filter it, it seems to work. If I run the font with no filter, it will run for a minute and then come up with a "Connection Timed Out" page from the server.
inmarket Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 The reason for this is that the font has too many glyphs in it and therefore the time taken to convert it is longer than your browser timeout. The full font with everything in it is still being generated - your browser is just giving up waiting for it. Filtering glyphs reduces the number of glyphs and therefore reduces the time to convert it.
Joel Bodenmann Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 There's also a limit on the maximum duration that the script can take to convert the font (server side timeout). But to prevent this kind of issue that timeout has been set to 3600 seconds. I just verified that that setting is still correct. There's nothing we can do on your browser side.
kengineer Posted March 4, 2016 Author Report Posted March 4, 2016 Got it, I'll see what I can do on my side. Thanks for the advisement.
Joel Bodenmann Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 You can try running the converter directly on your computer. There are binaries for Windows, Linux and FreeBSD in the uGFX library repository. But we don't provide any warranty nor support for those binaries.
kengineer Posted March 9, 2016 Author Report Posted March 9, 2016 Hi Joel, Yep that's exactly what I did, worked out great thanks.
Joel Bodenmann Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 Glad to hear that you got it working!
